Topic: In Case of Emergency (ICE)
The Branford police would like to take this opportunity to encourage town residents to consider using the ICE program which stands for “In Case of Emergency”. The concept comes from an ambulance service in East Anglia, U.K. The idea is that you store the word "ICE" in your mobile phone address book, and with it enter the number of the person you would want to be contacted "In Case of Emergency”. You may also want to enter multiple contacts; you can have ICE, ICE1, ICE2, or ICE--Wife, ICE--Son. Emergency responders would then be able to contact these people by checking for ICE entries in your mobile phone. Deputy Chief of Police John DeCarlo said “In light of the world situation the Branford Police Department is taking part in the simple and innovative ICE program. This initiative was started by the East Anglian, UK Ambulance Service after the recent terror bombings there. We feel that it is another way that the police and the community can work together by preemptively addressing potential problems. ###
