THEFT OF COPPER FROM WINTERIZED COTTAGES

Police want to notify home owners and cottage owners in the Sunset Beach Road area of Pawson Park that there is a rise in the theft of copper and scrap metal from their neighborhood. The copper consists of pipes from underneath winterized cottages, outdoor showerheads and faucets, as well as, copper hooded walkway/driveway lights. Stolen scrap metal items included a mushroom style boat anchor and metal boom from a piece of power equipment.
Cottage owners should take measures to reduce their possibility to theft as well as burglary by securing all access areas under their cottages as well as any doors or windows. Please remove all valuable from the cottage and additionally, proper lighting, both inside and outside of your property helps deter thefts. Also, please check your property as often as possible or have a responsible person undertake the task.
The Police Department is requesting your assistance in being vigilant and reporting any suspicious people or activity in your area by watching your neighbor’s homes. Examples of suspicious include, unidentified people going door to door or suspicious vehicles parked or moving slowly through the neighborhood area.
When reporting activity, police dispatchers will request as much information as possible. Please try to report a precise location and detailed descriptions of suspicious people including gender, race and clothing and for vehicles include make, model, color and license plate numbers if possible.
