• Officer Melissa Carney

    Officer Melissa Carney, a resident of West Haven, joined the department in July 2012. Carney, along with classmate Officer Dionne, is a recent graduate of the Police Officer Standards and Training Council Connecticut Police Academy and is now continuing her training under the guidance of a Field Training Officer in our community.
    Officer Carney graduated West Haven High School in 2007. Carney attended the University of New Haven where she received her Bachelors’ degree in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Victim Services in January 2011. Officer Carney is continuing her education and is currently enrolled in John Jay College of Criminal Justice’s Masters’ in Criminal Justice program.
    Prior to becoming a Branford officer, Carney, who comes from a family of law enforcement officers, began her career as a civilian Crime Scene Technician at Milford Police Department where her father, Bruce holds the rank of Lieutenant and her brother Steven is a recruit officer, scheduled to graduate in March.

    In addition, Officer Carney has also assisted coaching the Branford High School Girl’s Lacrosse team for the past two years.
