 Welcome from School Resource Officer Mike Bonfiglio

School Resource Officer Defined:

A fully sworn Branford Police Officer who works within the school system as a liaison between students, staff, police and teachers.

 

Officer Bonfiglio is a resident of Branford and a graduate of the Class of 1974 from the Branford High School. After attending South Central Community College and Quinnipiac College he was hired as a Branford Police Officer in February of 1986. Officer Bonfiglio has served in many capacities for the Branford Police Department; including an assignment with the Statewide Narcotics Task Force, the Branford Special Response Team, and has served as a Field Training Officer for newly hired officers of the police department. Officer Bonfiglio was selected as Branford’s first School Resource Officer and received his certification through the Nation al Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO). He is also certified in instructing DARE for grades 5 and 6. Officer Bonfiglio has been recognized for his efforts by the Branford Police Department as well as the FBI, Connecticut State Police and other area police departments. Officer Bonfiglio also holds the rank of 7th degree black belt (Master Instructor) in the art of self defense Tae Kwon-Do.  He currently teaches this art at the recreation department here in Branford and is certified as an instructor and examiner internationally. He has coached and trained with the US National Tae Kwon-Do Team and has helped them prepare for international competitions. Officer Bonfiglio is married and has two daughters, one attending the Branford school system and another in college.

The Branford Police
School Resource Officer’s Mission is

To offer an environment that fosters learning, safety, and socially appropriate behaviors in our public and privates schools by deploying a highly trained police officer to the Branford School system as a school resource officer.

To give guidance, support, and directions to students, families and faculties by continually assessing progress, identifying problems, and collecting information regarding progress toward solutions.

 

The Branford SRO Program

The Branford Police Department is able to provide the Branford school system with a 17 year veteran of the Branford Police force. This officer, Michael Bonfiglio, has been assigned pursuant to a Department of Justice grant entitled COPS in Schools Program secured by Sergeant Kevin Halloran which allowed this program to be implemented. He will serve all of the Branford Schools. This includes the 3 elementary schools, one middle school, the Branford High School, St. Mary’s and the Wightwood School.
