Welcome from

Chief of Police John C. DeCarlo

The delivery of police services in the new millennium is a new and exciting challenge for government. The Branford Police Department is one of approximately 18,000 police departments in the United States. We aim to be one of the finest. Our mission is to reduce crime, reduce the fear of crime and prevent traffic accidents. Our goal is to do so using the newest professional techniques available to us.

With problem oriented policing methodologies, we do not merely react to crime. Instead, we aim to find and modify the criminogenic causes which underpin crime in society. We will be tough on crime but we will be tougher on the causes of crime in our community.

I invite the citizens of Branford to become involved in helping us and be a part of our efforts through the many innovative programs that we have begun.  Robert Peel once said that "The people are the police and the police are the people." That statement has never been truer than it is in contemporary society.

To contact our department please call 203-481-4241 (If you have an emergency, dial 911). I look forward to hearing from you.
